Refugee (back in London)

Am compelled to write briefly on Europe's largest postwar migration crisis. The pictures showing the droves of people walking on foot through Hungary are shocking.

I feel like Britain is now locked in a national debate as to whether the UK should take more action. It has the feel of a human rights referendum and interestingly polls are now showing that the majority of British people are in favour of proactive support.

The woeful reaction of Cameron was again a complete misread of the scale of the issue and I feel that in actual fact the UK press have played a fantastic role in pulling Cameron up on this to the extent that he has had to back track as he now trends towards the more populist proactive view. Australia press take note.

I also don't like how Cameron exploits his father role by saying as a father you could not help but be moved by the scale of the crisis.  Not sure why that was not his view last week.

I for one feel strongly that this is a really serious issue and if I were in their shoes I would (unlike my running) be front of the pack. No question.

Lastly I really do not like the right wing lame argument that we should not help as by doing so we may be letting IS militants into Europe. This is utter rubbish. That's like saying you won't save a drowning boy for fear of him infecting you with a remote desease at some point in the future and so you passively watch the boy drown and die.  It's the complete other way around, ie we are rescuing people because these REFUGEES are getting killed by militants like IS. Siria is a massive issue, the persecution is not a joke.

Clearly, being back in the UK has brought back my London attitude!

Runningwise I managed a 9k jog in the late morning. Jet lagged.

On a brighter note, I got home in time to give the boys their Aussie treats before school, Vegimite and Tim Tams.  We gave treats to Tommy's mates too who pick him up on route to school (we are the last stop).
