Lakes Tuesday

Woke up still feeling crook but had cabin fever so whilst everyone else opted for another walk with Grandad I decided on the picturesque drive to Ambleside with Lukie joining me. With fresh snow overnight it made for a hairy drive along the pass which has Hellvellyn the 950m peak on the easterly side and Thirlmere lake to the west.

Nice one on one time with #3 walking around town going into all the mountaineering shops and a nice lunch at the Apple Pie bakery wih Lukie consuming a beef and ale pie, a local speciality.

In the afternoon and after 4 days of feeling lousy I plucked up the courage to run. The family that morning had been up to the neighbouring Latrigg peak which sits in front of Skiddaw (another 900m+ peak) and in eyeshot from our kitchen window. The challenge had been set and off I went with the initial 3k entirely uphill having to scramble to make your way through the forest and out of the tree line but now into the snow. Now exposed by the wind it became a jog walk jog before you hit the ridge with stunning views back across Keswick and Derwentwater.

Continuing to traverse the ridge the loop then descends on a zig zagged path to the north before it swings back into Keswick town. 10.5k in 65 minutes including 400ms of vertical climbing. Finally some air in the lungs and just the tonic I needed.
