Sunday Real Madrid

Got up and hit the beach and came back to the pool. I managed the 10k circuit over the Bidart beach trail which is majestic.

We then drove the 40 mins to San Seb and walked around for a bit on the promenade taking in the sights before we took the 28 bus to the stadium. Within 10 minutes of us arriving the Real Madrid bus showed up with everyone whistling and giving almost as hostile reception as at Selhurst. I even screamed at Zizoo as he got off the bus - see pic of him stepping out of their bus.

After the obligatory photos in and out of the stadium we took place directly behind the goal. Bale though dampened the atmosphere as within 2 minutes he scored with a header and then they made it 2 before half time. The moment of the half though was when the entire stadium stood up at the 9 minute marker to salute Dalian Atkinson who was killed by UK police this week. He wore the coveted number 9 shirt and scored a fair few in 1991.  This is remarkable as Real Sociedad is just about as traditional as clubs go with only recently allowing non Basque born players to actually play for the club.

It did not matter the atmosphere was still good on a stunning warm and still summers evening and all 6 of us loved every minute. We now have a team in La Liga to support (and suffer with) in the famous blue and white stripes.

At the final whistle we sprinted out of the stadium to pick up the waiting #28 bus to head back to the old town where we had parked the car - home before midnight.

* The boys have no clue how lucky they are.
