NYE

Last run of the year and it really summed it up 'steady and slow'.

It's been a disappointing year with trying to get fit for London. 5 weeks out running 27km in 3.45s I thought I was on track but my excuses are going skiing for 2 weeks 4 weeks out and then the foot issues coupled with some lingering sickness.

The sporting highlight of the year was my cycling trip to Palma. I loved every minute and totally smashed myself over 3 days and on 2 of those days riding solo. Basically covered 75% of the island and the place is made for cycling. The descent with the former TdeF Katusha rider down to Soller was memorable too.The 2 weeks family skiing trip was another highlight with Tommy being the stand out. He has a lot of potential.

I suppose rekindling my cycling was the other positive to somewhat offset the running disappointment. The commute on the bike made a massive difference to my overall mood.

Injury permitting I will run both London and Berlin marathons in 2017. I have places for both. I want to chance my arm in a cycling Sportiv too.

A reminder to self:

1. As I always say weight is the game changer and need to get down to 77kgs to have any chance versus the current 80kg. It won't be easy.

2. Work needs to play ball too and I need to get the Kms under my belt but lugging 80kgs invariably results in injury if I flog myself with 100+ km weeks. Work takes way too much out of me and would like to say it won't but it is what it is.

3. I desperately need to do some track work for my speed sessions. Thinking I can get away with 40mins on the treadmill at lunch is a joke.

I still live in hope.

My stats for the year were 3k+ kms for running and nearly 3k for my cycling. Some of my Strava mates are running more than 5,000 which puts things into perspective.

NYE - night

We were invited to Chris and Charlotte's on the Esatern Hill but the boys over ruled and insisted we head straight to the 'office' aka the East Esplanade. Standard night with boys swimming in the water as the fireworks were launched from the neighbouring boats.
