Biarritz to Saintes (Saturday)

Last night we said our goodbyes to Rose, Dors, Finn and Hamish who drove back to the UK today.  We had a really nice time with them and the boys got on like a house on fire.

Today was a lazy day as we packed up and drove to Biarritz to spend the late afternoon there. J was keen on some final window shopping and so I took the boys around the surf shops and bought ice cream at our regular haunt along the main pedestrian street.

We finished off with a final swim eating the famous Gateaux Basque (the cream version and not the cherry one we had in Guétary) and the standard marzipan macaroons from 'Maison Adam' (founded in 1660!) on the beach. I managed to upset the locals when I let out a massive wohoo when Sako scored the winner on debut with 3 minutes remaining to beat Villa 2-1. It has been a solid start to the season but still worried about Bolasie's future as he keeps getting linked with the supposed 'big' clubs.

Mo also won the 10k at the World Champs in Beijing as the Kenyans once again did not take it to him with the 64s laps were simply not enough, they really needed to take it out at world record 62s pace. They also failed to medal in the marathon.

In the evening we drove the 3 hours to Saintes (between 7 and 10pm to avoid the notorious Bordeau traffic) and then headed straight to the Pizzaria in the old town we like there. J was paying (courtesy of her Thermomix sales) and so we splashed out on oysters, fois gras and an array of pizzas. It was a really pleasant way to cap off the holiday sitting outside at midnight in one of narrow lane ways all in high spirits. Not though looking forward to the long drive home tomorrow! The French motorways are a mission.

Re running, I managed a slow 10 x 1km interval session in the morning. Rest day tomorrow, circa 65kms for the week.
